Coast Guard Safety
The US Coast Guard regularly makes safety stops of boats in the waters around the Florida Keys. Some of the things they will check are that you have all required safety gear and that your flares are not expired, and that all children are wearing safety vests and that there are enough safety vests for all people on board. As a boat owner (“captain” for this purpose), you are ultimately responsible for the safety of your passengers and must be in compliance with all regulations. They have a wonderful web site, www.uscgboating.org, which will provide you with the knowledge you need for a safe and happy day on your boat. |

Float Plan Tavernier Creek Marina highly recommends that you file a float plan with a friend before leaving the dock. In the event of any problem, the faster a search starts, the more likely it is that people will be found if their boat capsizes or breaks down. |
